Seabrook’s historic records date back to 1832 when Ritson Morris, a native Virginian, obtained a tract of land from the Mexican government. Texas had already joined the United States when in 1895, a portion of the Morris land grant was purchased by Seabrook W. Sydnor and a plat filed in 1896 with the Harris County Courthouse. Several years later, upon reaching agreement with the town’s farmers, fishermen, and merchants, a revised layout of the townsite was filed, but Seabrook did not incorporate as a city until 1961. In 1964, a bridge was built linking Kemah and Seabrook with State Highway 146, expanded into 4-lanes, running across the bridge. The improved infrastructure brought considerable growth to the small town. With the many outdoor recreational opportunities of Clear Lake and Galveston Bay, and lots of fresh seafood, the town attracts visitors from across the nation. Seabrook’s convenient location near major attractions such as the Kemah Boardwalk, NASA Johnson Space Center, Downtown Houston, and the cruise ship Port of Galveston, draws many visitors from all over the world.

An extensive Hike & Bike Trail system connects several of the city’s many parks. The trails are used year-round and are one of Seabrook’s most popular attractions by far, in the Greater Houston Area. Marathons and fun runs are held annually. Parks cover over 200 acres and include rentable pavilions, 2 boat ramps, 2 public pools, 2 splash pads, and a 1,000 ft saltwater fishing pier. Seabrook is ideal for bird lovers with over 300 diverse species to spot along inland trails, parks, and the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail. A few of the named parks are Pine Gully Park with over 50 acres featuring a Karankawa Indian campsite, wetlands, salt marshes, woods, nature trails, and the 1,000 ft fishing pier. Amenities include restrooms, picnic tables and BBQ grills, water fountains, and natural playgrounds. Trails are part of the Seabrook Trail System. Miramar Park features the city pool—Pelican Bay, with a 30 ft looping waterslide tunnel, two pools, and a splash pad. Pool is open during summer months.

The Rex L Meador Park features baseball/softball fields, basketball court, BBQ grill, benches, pavilion, Hike & Bike trail, restrooms, skatepark, sand volleyball court, and water fountain. The 21-acre park is adjacent to Evelyn Meador Branch Library and Miramar Park (pool). Its trails are also part of the Seabrook Hike & Bike Trail System. The Seabrook Wildlife Refuge & Park features benches along the Hike & Bike Trail. McHale Park features a raised, covered observation deck offering a panoramic view of Galveston Bay’s western shore. Great place for picnics, and popular waterfront restaurants are within walking distance. McHale Park is positioned next to the Great Texas Coastal Birding Trail, making it a great spot to observe white pelicans feeding in the winter months. Herons and egrets fill the adjacent marshes. The city of Seabrook owns and operates the Seabrook Community House and the Carothers Coastal Gardens—a Spanish-heritage house on 8 acres of exquisite landscaping that is a very popular venue for special events, such as weddings.

A few of Seabrook’s notable restaurants and seafood markets are Tookie’s Seafood Restaurant, Golden Seafood market, Emery’s Seafood market, Baybrook’s Fresh Seafood market, Pelican Grill—featured on Food Network’s Robert Irvine’s Restaurant Impossible, Melion (award-winning), Seabrook Classic Café (established 1985), Iguanas Ranas, Laredo’s, Sam’s Boat Restaurant & Sports Bar—a TexMex seafood landmark with large waterfront patio and boat docks (call ahead for dock & dine), Barge 295—floating bar & grill on Clear Lake featuring local craft beers, 2 bars, live music, 2 levels with upper deck, and boat slips (call ahead for dock & dine), Outriggers Seafood Grill & Bar—restaurant with 2 levels on the water, boat docks—call ahead for dock & dine.
