The mission for the Oyster 56 was to design a world class cruising yacht developing the proven features and characteristics of current Oysters, blended with further innovation, which would appeal to bluewater cruising yachtsmen well into the next century. The Oyster 56 offers a unique blend of performance, comfort accommodation and features. Comfort starts above deck with a truly ergonomically designed cockpit. Oystercatcher XXII won Class A in the 1999 ARC by a staggering two and a half days, then went on to win Antigua Race Week Cruising Class I overall with 3 x 1st.
Seven berths in four cabins. Joinery in Teak-sculpted fiddles and grab rails, shadow gap joinery, Oyster custom knobs for lockers and drawers. Alcantara headlinging in saloon and galley. Avonite counter tops to WC washbasin surfaces. Hella Fans. Heads forward incorporating a Sealand Vacuflush toilet. Washbasin and storage. Saloon with curved settee to port round an oval table, outboard of which are a pair of lockers and a central shelf to the hull port. Molded solid laminate hull with cored stringers and frame. Molded FRP deck with balsa core, center cockpit, skeg hung rudder, in-mast hydraulic furling, lead ballast, teak planked decking, 24VDC bow thruster. This the B plan forward-makes room for anchor locker-huge sail locker bringing the cabins aft. Oyster deck saloon with "eyebrow" styling teak interior with teak and holly sole-keel has high performance lead bulb, Bulwark finished with teak cap rail. Stainless steel pulpit, push pit with two stern seats and gate way midship stanchions, lazarette locker with twin stainless gas struts.
