Ocean Schimmel is a 1998 Beneteau Oceanis 352. The 352 is a sought-after, well-rounded family sailing yacht with a large cockpit, sleek lines and a fast, efficient hull. The vessel is seakindly thanks to her cast-iron winged keel, and is easy to handle. She boasts a large, comfortable interior with cherry veneer finish and offers the desirable two-cabin layout. The main sail and the jib are in super condition. The main sail has an in-mast reefing system. She is offered for sale with custom additional storm sail and asymmetrical spinnaker; both in excellent condition and onboard in sail bags including marked lines and blocks. She is powered with a 27 HP Yanmar diesel, Model 3GM30F with 2294 hours. Installed on the diesel is a double-sized (60Amp) alternator, with 30Amp as a backup The Yanmar has had a new transmission and exhaust system. The 352 comes with a Mercury 4-stroke 3.5 outboard. Ocean Schimmel has been moored in fresh water since 2006. Notable items that have been replaced or upgraded due to age and maintenance and are listed below.
Specifications
COCKPIT:
The cockpit has large U-Shaped seating with teak seats for 4 plus skipper at the wheel, with removable cushions and storage underneath the seats. Under the port seat are the three house D27M batteries. The owner moved them there from under the quarter-berth for safety reasons. Under the starboard seat are a 6-person Plastimo raft that is certified until April 2025, life jackets, lightning protection cables and other safety gear. The transom seat can be lowered backwards onto the transom, creating a ladder to get in and out of the water. The vessel has an inline helm and wheel. For instruments there is a wind ST 60 + a Tri data auto - auto helm ST 4000. The Radar is a working Raymarine C70 (NOTE * works only in the cockpit, not at the nav station inside). The Garmin GPS map 545s works both inside and outside. The GPS has its own, independent depth meter, and it can connect to the Sirius satellite weather forecast through Garmin GXM31 when the next owner activates it ($50/month). Gauges at the helm include engine hour meter, fuel tank gauge and RPMs. You will also see a new Plastimo 135 compass. Directly in front of the helm is a storage bin that easily converts into the cockpit table. The cockpit is covered with a bimini and dodger with forward eisenglass, the wheel and helm also have a canvas cover. The propane bottle and smaller torch bottles are in the ventilated locker at the aft/port corner of the cockpit. You must open the big port locker to access the ventilated locker.
TWO CABINS AND HEAD and GALLEY:
As mentioned in the boat description, the vessel offers two cabins and one head. Both cabins and the head have privacy doors. The current owner prefers the rear cabin for its vicinity to all important stations and the engine; that cabin also has a window into the cockpit - a great feature for long, non-stop trips. The front cabin, currently used for guests, has a deck hatch with a solar fan. All matrasses and cushions are in great condition. Both cabins have side shelf storage, cupboard with shelves, and a hanging locker. Rear cabin has a large storage under the mattress. Throughout the vessel, under the clean mattress cushions is access to storage and to all critical equipment - to all pumps including the bilge pump, to the Yanmar transmission, the prop shaft, parallel twin fuel filters, and to engine seacocks in the rear cabin. The engine and its dedicated battery are accessible from all four sides. The vessel’s battery isolator switches and windlass breaker are conveniently located on the bulkhead. Ocean Schimmel has an ACR EPIRB – the owner is replacing it with a new one for the next owner; the new owners will just have to activate it in their name. Forward of the owner’s cabin is the wet head with shower, floor draining pump, and Jabsco commode. There are two mirrored medicine cabinets, a faucet with cold and hot water; hot water heater uses either engine or 110V. Galley is on the portside, right under the entrance. It has a Samsung microwave and propane two-burner stove on gimbals. (NOTE* The oven button is permanently fixed in the off position). There is also a deep chest refrigerator with a freezing compartment, and twin stainless-steel sinks and storage.
SALON:
The salon has good height and is roomy, thanks to the 352’s 12’6” beam. She has a warm, comfortable, inviting cherry veneer interior with teal cushions. There are no foul odors in the interior. The wood is dry, with no recent, or old water stains and it shows very well with minimum aging. In midship on the port side is the navigation station along with the boat’s electrical panels. You will notice the boat’s electronics (as previously mentioned), also a standard Horizon VHF radio with passive AIS which can be used simultaneously from the cockpit or nav-station, and AM/FM stereo (NOTE* the stereo only works inside the vessel). Forward of the navigation station and on the port-side is a two-seat sofa which can double as a one-person bed; underneath and behind it is another large storage. On the starboard side of the salon dinette is a large comfortable wraparound seating. All the seat cushions look great. The sofa dinette also converts into a sleeper. Under the seat is access to a clean AC unit (NOTE * The AC runs off separate 30 AMP shore power cord, as marked on the stern). On the starboard side, under the seating, is the “pump house”, with all pumps, valves and hoses labelled. Under the entrance steps is the Yanmar diesel with excellent access from all four sides. The salon sole has many removable panels allowing fast access to components under the sole.
SAILS, DECK AND HULL:
The deck on the boat is free of all lines thanks to a second top deck cover. Under the deck are the halyards and maneuvering lines. All the lines are brought back to line clutches and winches in the cockpit. All clutches and jammers are labeled and in good working order. The two winches are unusually large (64x) for easier turning. The rigging, the lines, and turnbuckles are in good condition and ready for a surveyor’s professional opinion and survey. The jib and the main are in very good condition ready to go sailing. The main sail is rolled into the mast, the jib is rolled onto the forestay. As previously mentioned, the vessel has additional sails. On the transom is a wind generator – it was the current owner’s preference over solar panels. The vessel has a 12 to 110V inverter. During the life of the boat, the bottom was painted many times, the hull sides up to the toe-rail in 2022.
Ocean Schimmel has explored both East and West coast of Florida, Cuba, Mexico and the Bahamas close and far. She is ready for new adventures with new owners. Please contact the seller’s agent for walkthrough videos of the vessel or for any additional photos. We hope to talk with you very soon.
In both Czech and German, Schimmel is a word for a good, reliable horse. The exact translation would be dapple grey horse.
