Offered as an Open Bridge model, or as the 70 Enclosed Bridge, the Viking 70 Convertible remains very popular, though no longer available for build to order. With its timeless sleek, predatory profile and elegant, curvaceous lines, the 70C presents its capabilities as a powerful tournament-winning sportfish with the refined comfort of a luxury motor yacht. The 70 Convertible benefits from its Viking heritage, particularly the 74 Convertible with similar flybridge and 4 stateroom/4 head accommodations layout, and the 76 Convertible’s similar main deck arrangement.

The 70 Convertible’s fine modified-V entry with increased deadrise, over 8-feet of forward freeboard, and convex hull form allow her to slice through head seas, throwing aside waves with ease for Viking’s legendary dry, seakindly ride. The flattened 11.8-degree transom deadrise gives her the lift to launch forward. Years of engineering, R&D, and tournament testing have proven the 70 C’s hull in a range of sea conditions along with its ability to raise, catch (and release) trophy fish. This 70-foot sportfishing yacht with its excellent build, is the result of decades of continuous improvement and utilization of modern systems, technology, equipment, and manufacturing processes. Nearly 90% of Viking’s components are manufactured in-house or supplied through subsidiaries, Palm Beach Towers and Atlantic Marine Electronics.
The bridge and cockpit arrangements have benefitted from years of Jersey Atlantic coast white marlin tournament experience to set standards of excellence. The 70 C’s Open Bridge features the center console style helm with all the necessary controls, electronics, and monitoring systems such as the N2KView® OctoplexTM touchscreen electrical distribution system for complete management of the vessel’s AC/DC circuits and equipment from discreetly placed displays or remote access. This system saves a lot of weight in wiring and energy costs in addition to many other benefits. Three large KEP display screens eliminate sun glare and navigation controls are protected in boxes on either side of helm steering pod. Viking’s proprietary VIPER steering system is quite possibly best in industry for maneuvering at all speeds—swiftly executing twists, spins, turns and reversals with finesse to bring in that wily white marlin!
Open Bridge guest seating is forward of helm console and lounges with storage underneath are on port and starboard sides. Aft-facing jump seats are at the ends of both lounges. The three Murray helm seats echo the 70 C’s curves. Visibility fore and aft of the helm is excellent; freezer unit was relocated to the brow of bridge keeping guests seated further back, out of helmsman’s sightline. Extended aft deck provides greater walk-around space and shades the mezzanine below. Aft deck hatch and ladder lead down to the cockpit mezzanine.
The optional Enclosed Bridge layout is similar to that of the 74 Convertible, with forward raised wrap-around helm and single centerline helm seat flanked on port and starboard sides with companion seats. L-shaped couch with storage underneath and cocktail table are on raised platform to aft opposite cabinetry, entertainment system with TV, and refrigerator with icemaker for climate-controlled relaxation on the bridge. A circular staircase leads down to the main deck salon. Aft weatherproof door leads to extended bridge aft deck with pod-style docking station on portside and an aft-facing lounge to starboard shaded by the hardtop’s aft extension. Hatch and ladder in deck lead down to cockpit mezzanine.
The 208 square foot cockpit has been updated by Viking to follow the curved theme—windows, mezzanine, tackle-center, transom, and more. Under seat compartments of mezzanine contain freezers (bait/rigged bait trays) and refrigerators (food & drinks). Storage lockers for gaffs, mops, etc. and oil change quick connects are under gunwales. In-sole insulated fish boxes lift out of deck for easy access to equipment below. Transom mounted swim steps lead to transom door with lift gate. Transom mounted fish box can be plumbed as livewell. Livewell in cockpit sole is an option. Engine room access is by center hatch in mezzanine lower level and down a few steps to watertight door. Engine room is meticulously configured for ease of maintenance, service, and weight balance to maintain a low center of gravity for optimal performance.
The main deck salon is entered via an electronic push-button opening sliding door from the mezzanine steps. Just inside to port is a convenient day head. The spacious salon is elegantly appointed with comfortable designer (William Bale and Co.) furnishings, window treatments, fabrics, carpeting, and baby ostrich headliner throughout. An L-shaped Ultraleather sofa with hi-lo cocktail table is to starboard, opposite the entertainment center featuring a 46” (standard) or 50” flatscreen TV and Bose Lifestyle surround sound system. Icemaker and glass storage is in salon cabinetry.
Galley and dinette are forward of salon. Raised dinette C-shaped settee has removable cushions and storage underneath. Dinette table is high gloss finished teak supported by a sturdy teak pedestal. Galley with island features granite counters and overhang with 3 bar stools. Well equipped with deluxe appliances—Sub Zero undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers, electric 4-burner cooktop and hob (high velocity ventilation), trash compactor, in-sink garbage disposal, along with plentiful storage in beautifully finished cabinets and drawers. Walk-in pantry is forward of galley at top of companionway.
Unlike the typical convertible layout, the companionway is offset to starboard for generous staterooms on port side and forward. The three-quarter beam master stateroom features a king-size walk-around bed with upholstered headboard, plenty of drawer storage underbed and in furniture, vanity/desk with stool, built-in seating, entertainment center with surround sound, wall mounted flatscreen TV, and luxury ensuite head with separate shower. Forward of master suite is the port guest stateroom with upper/lower bunks. Forepeak VIP guest stateroom features raised queen walkaround bed with storage underneath or an optional crossover berth arrangement, wall mounted flatscreen TV, and stereo speakers tied-in to salon system. Maple-lined hanging locker, drawers, and cabinets for lots of storage.
Each stateroom has a private head and shower. Crew stateroom with private access is a few steps down from bottom of companionway stairs, aft of master suite, and features upper/lower bunks, plenty of storage, stereo tied-in to salon system, and private head with separate shower. Watertight engine room door was available as an option. An optional 5-stateroom layout was also available, along with many other options offered by Viking (Palm Beach Towers custom tower and outrigger package, rocket launcher rod holders, electric teaser reels, upgraded helm pod and electronics are just a few) and owner custom requests, making each Viking 70 Convertible uniquely outfitted.
