Added to the Viking line-up in 2013, the 62 Convertible has a solid legacy of tournament-proven design and build spanning over 55 years. Designed to exceed expectations, the 62C showcases Viking’s beautiful styling, amazing maneuverability, and luxurious designer accommodations. The 62C’s powerful profile is enhanced by the long graceful sheerline that flows aft from 8ft of forward freeboard. As with all Viking Yachts, the 62C is a comfortable cruiser as well as tough tournament contender.
Viking is offering the 62C with an open bridge layout (preferred for the tournament circuit) or Enclosed Bridge (EB) model with a comfortable climate-controlled flybridge that can be enjoyed as a second salon. The Enclosed Bridge features a leather clad forward centerline helm with single Stidd helm chair and has excellent visibility. A steering station on the exterior bridge aft deck makes it easy to back into a slip or maneuver on a fish. The Enclosed Bridge can be outfitted with a custom tower from Palm Beach Towers as well as the Open Bridge model.
Initially designed with an interior layout featuring a large L-shaped galley with a large island counter on the forward starboard side, the galley is currently (2022) configured as a U-shaped peninsula galley with a raised bar counter and two stools on salon side and has been switched with the dinette to forward portside. The current dinette is C-shaped with a larger rectangular table. With a nearly 19’ beam, the large salon area appears even larger with the current layout’s increased open space. The cabinetry that houses the salon’s entertainment center with Bose Lifestyle home theater system and an electronically actuated 46” HDTV that rises from the cabinet, remains on the starboard aft side opposite the L-shaped couch on portside aft. The salon entrance also remains on the starboard side of the cockpit.
The companionway to the belowdecks accommodations has been shifted to starboard between the dinette and galley and the 4-stateroom/3-head layout has been rearranged with the midships ensuite master on portside and ensuite VIP stateroom portside and forward. The two guest cabins with single berths, and a shared head between them, are on the starboard side in current 62C models. The laundry center is on the companionway next to the guest/day head. This layout was the reverse when the 62C was introduced in 2013. Viking offers an optional 3-stateroom/3-head configuration and forward stateroom could have a centerline queen berth or crossover double and single berths.
Changes occur as Viking seeks to “build a better boat every day,” adding improvements that enhance quality of life aboard, performance and style, and is to be expected of an excellent Viking yacht in production for nearly 10 years!
The earlier 62C models features a serving island topped with custom granite in the L-shaped galley—great for meal prep and quick bites or early coffee. And the Enclosed Bridge version’s forward starboard spiral staircase lead down to the main salon between the starboard side cabinetry and galley (modified to U-shape with counter overhang and two bar stools in salon). The Enclosed Bridge’s large forward centerline helm can accommodate just about any array of electronics and instrumentation with expert installation by Viking’s Atlantic Marine Electronics. Everything is within easy reach of the captain’s Stidd helm seat. A companion seat for two flanks the helm seat to port. The 62C EB lounge area consists of an L-shaped couch with cocktail table on starboard aft side that is opposite a built-in finished wood console housing a refrigerator. A flatscreen TV is mounted above on bulkhead. The beautifully finished lounge area is carpeted, or sole could optionally be teak or the easy care Amtico.
The Open Bridge layout is very typical of Viking’s convertibles with walkaround center helm console, seating on forward side of console and on starboard and port sides, 3 Release helm seats, and a freezer compartment and chill box forward of the side bench seats. The low-profile console features a helm pod with single-lever controls and the fingertip responsive SeaStar Optimus Electronic Power Steering. Electronics are housed in the raised dash. Radios and accessory switches are in compartments on either side of the wheel. Storage is under seats—Viking is well known for maximizing storage space for lengthy tournaments or cruises to distant fishing sites and a clean, clutter-free look. A custom tuna tower could be ordered and installed by Viking’s Palm Beach Towers, along with other options such as outriggers and rocket launcher arrays. An electronics drop-down compartment and Miya electronic teaser reel box could be opted for installation under the hardtop. Viking Yachts is very accommodating of owner’s wishes and each 62C is a semi-custom sportfishing yacht.
The 176 sq ft cockpit is a huge, uncluttered area ready to do battle with the gamefish of choice—tuna, marlin, sailfish, shark! Owners can have the professionally outfitted cockpit arranged with their preference of rod holders, fishboxes, livewells, freezers, icemaker, chill boxes and more. The cushioned observation mezzanine with under seat and in-step compartments is standard, as is the bait and tackle center located starboard under the bridge ladder. An optional fish fighting chair can be installed; the backing plate is pre-built into the sole. Viking also provides pre-prepped space in the lazarette for a Seakeeper gyrostabilizer—a very popular option. Access to the immaculate engine room is through the inboard seat section of the mezzanine which lifts on gas struts to reveal down steps. Engine room is engineered for ideal center of gravity, noise and vibration abatement, and easy access to maintain engines, machinery, batteries, and systems. A centralized seawater system with manifold distribution of water flow to key systems such as air-conditioners, reduces plumbing and hardware. Onboard electrical systems are monitored and managed via touchscreens and visual and audio alarms.
The 62 Convertible delivers great speed, acceleration, and maneuverability with a variety of power choices. Viking’s base package is a pair of 1,550 hp MAN V12 diesel engines. Owners could opt for the higher powered 2,000 hp MAN V12s or MTU’s Series 2000 twin 1,945 hp 12V-2000 M96L (gave the 62C a top speed of 42 knots on a test run) and 2,002 hp V12-2000 M96X diesels. The two Caterpillar options are twin 1,925 hp CAT C32A 1925CRM and 2,025 hp CAT C32B 2025CRM diesels.
The Viking 62 Convertible has a length overall of 63’1” and a beam of 18’11”. Draft is 5’2” and displacement weight is 94,025 lbs. Fuel capacity is 1,800 gallons (optional 2,155 gal.), water capacity is 310 gallons, and holding tank is 152 gallons.
