The Viking 60 Convertible that was offered with an Open or Enclosed Bridge, showcased a new look for Viking with subtle but impactful changes, and some not so subtle changes. Noticeable changes to the hull and exterior are to the bow, with higher sheerline (Viking’s dropped bow is gone), a pronounced raked stem, more graceful lines—cabin, bridge, windows. The hull was modified with flatter aft sections, and more convex forward sections and foredeck camber. Weight has been shifted aft and running angle was changed to give the 60C a softer and drier ride. This is one of the most popular Viking Yachts for sale on the brokerage market today.

Viking included some great new features taken from superyacht design, such as fuel transfers between tanks can now be done from the helm—a great convenience when making distant passages. Shifting fuel forward to balance the load can decrease the draft for shallower waters and boat slips. Viking’s premier propeller supplier, Veem Propellers developed a method for easily adjusting prop pitch without having to haul out, for optimizing performance as the load changes, especially when on a long cruise.
Standard power in the 60C was twin 1,550 hp MAN V-12 diesels with a top speed of 37 knots, but most owners opted for the twin 1,825 hp Caterpillar C32A diesels capable of cruising at 35 knots and a top speed of 40 knots.
Viking’s bright white engine rooms are arranged and engineered for easy maintenance and servicing. Loud machinery is thoughtfully placed at the aft bulkhead, while quieter machinery is housed in the separate forward pump rooms. Engines are mounted in such a way as to prevent vibration and sound from transmitting throughout the vessel. Everything is easy to see; wiring and plumbing are neatly organized and labeled.
Viking’s attention to detail is nothing short of amazing—engine room, flybridge, cockpit, accommodations—throughout the 60 Convertible, from a company that prides itself in always building a better boat. Case in point is the flybridge storage compartments that have ridged bottoms for air circulation to prevent moisture build-up and mold from developing. A major change to the flybridge was the walkaround center helm console. The Palm Beach style helm pod features power steering and single lever controls for easy, responsive handling. The console could hold three 16” displays protected from salt air by clear acrylic covers and a custom electronics package from Atlantic Marine Electronics. Helm seating included three Murray Products teak ladder-back chairs. Bench seating at port and starboard sides and forward of the console, accommodates guests on the bridge and provides additional rod and gear storage underneath. Amenities on the flybridge include a chest freezer, drink box, lots of storage, and freshwater washdown. Another feature that was new on the Viking 60 Convertible was the Moritz Octoplex system that monitors and controls all shipboard AC and DC electrical power via touchscreens strategically placed on bridge and in salon, with manual back-up circuit breakers in the engine room. This system not only eliminates the big AC/DC electrical panels but saves quite a bit of weight in wiring (estimated at 800 lbs.), and weight savings enhances performance.
The 60 Convertible’s cockpit features an observation mezzanine with cushioned seating and various compartments for rigged bait, drinks, gear and more, keeping the cockpit clear of clutter. Amenities include a 4-drawer tackle center on portside under the bridge ladder. Owners could specify the arrangement of amenities and optional equipment such as livewells, fish boxes, icemakers, freezers, refrigerated boxes, BBQ grills, fighting chair (a support plate is built into the cockpit sole), rocket launchers, and more. Viking’s Convertible Sportfishing Yachts are highly customized by their owners and often updated and upgraded over the years.
A lockable sliding door, up a few steps from the cockpit, opens to the full beam main deck living area of salon, galley, and dinette. Large frameless windows and ergonomically flowing interior lines make the 60 C’s salon seem even more spacious. Viking yachts are known for their efficient use of space and quality of workmanship that rivals custom builders. Upon entering the salon, an L-shaped settee and cocktail table is starboard aft with the dinette forward, a change from previous models. Cabinetry in beautifully finished teak veneer (or owner’s choice) houses the Bose entertainment center and storage, and is directly opposite the salon settee. A 42” flatscreen TV is mounted on the forward bulkhead above the dinette and is viewable throughout the salon.
The open, U-shaped galley is forward on portside and features a peninsula with overhang and two barstools on salon side for additional dining place settings or quick bites. Galley appliances are concealed in teak cabinetry, keeping the clean and elegant look that is a hallmark of Viking’s interiors. Appliances include SubZero undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers, microwave/convection oven, and undermounted stainless-steel sink with garbage disposal. A four-burner glass cooktop is mounted in the granite (or owner’s choice) countertop.
Companionway between the galley and dinette leads down a few steps to the accommodations level. A three-stateroom with ensuite head layout is standard and features a large master suite to portside with an offset queen walkaround berth, VIP stateroom with centerline queen berth is in forepeak, and guest stateroom with side-by-side single berths is on starboard side. The VIP guest stateroom could optionally be configured with crossover berths. Viking also offered a 4-stateroom/3 head layout, adding another guest stateroom on starboard side. A stacked washer and dryer are in a companionway closet as is the central vacuum connection and accessories.
The accommodations layouts remain the same for the Enclosed Bridge model, but the optional spiral staircase replaces the forward end of salon credenza. The Enclosed Bridge is like a second salon with an L-shaped settee and cocktail table on a raised platform, refrigerator with icemaker, 19” flatscreen TV, stereo and CD player, full climate control, and forward control station with Stidd chair. A weatherproof, lockable aft door leads to the extended bridge aft deck with a pod-style aft docking station to starboard and an aft-facing bench seat on portside. Some owners prefer the Enclosed Bridge for cruising and outfit the cockpit accordingly, opting for a BBQ grill and a table instead of a fighting chair, using storage compartments for diving equipment, and adding a swim/diving platform. Viking is very accommodating, and every 60 Convertible is a semi-custom yacht.
The Viking 60 Convertible has a length overall of 60’8” and 64’10” including bow pulpit. The beam is 18’9” and draft is 5’1”. Deadrise at transom is 12 degrees. Standard fuel capacity is 1,620 gallons, with an option for 1,920 gallons. Water capacity is 300 gallons and holding tank is 135 gallons. Displacement with a standard fuel load is 91,300 lbs.
