Viking Yacht’s 46 Convertible, that was introduced in 2010, was designed to replace the 45-foot model of 2003. The updated hull form of the 46C features moderate propeller pockets and a 12.5-degree aft deadrise. Interior styling and details were updated as well, based on Viking standards that are the same for every model, large or small. From 92ft down to 46ft, owners can expect the same level of quality design, engineering, and craftsmanship based on 50+ years of family-owned and operated boatbuilding success and tournament-fishing experience.

The tournament-ready 46 Convertible was designed and built for serious sport fishing, to perform and track well in all sea conditions. As the smallest of the Viking Convertible line when it was produced, the 46C’s size gave her a competitive edge in terms of maneuverability. MAN engines power Veem Interceptor propellers in prop pockets which decrease the shaft angle, maximizing prop thrust and enhancing both speed and fuel economy. Another benefit is the shorter draft for entering shallower waters or crossing a reef. The Teleflex power assist steering makes maneuvering and spinning on a billfish or running through a circuitous channel “a piece of cake.” And Lenco electronic trim tabs respond instantly to control running attitude. The proprietary Viking 46C hull design and running surface with prop pockets help keep roll to a minimum even for a 46-footer.
The 121 sq ft tournament cockpit features mezzanine seating with engine room access and a large bait freezer underneath the cushioned seats. More stowage is under the footrest level. A drink cooler (refrigeration optional) is in the salon entry step. Tackle drawer cabinet is below the ladder to flybridge. Gaffs, tag sticks, mops and such are stowed under port and starboard gunwales. Cable TV and phone connections and shore power cables are behind panels under gunwale, as is the remote oil exchange system—a great convenience. The two large in-sole insulated fish boxes can be customized as a live well or extra bait freezer with optional ice machine feed. Cockpit can accommodate a full-size fighting chair—a support plate is built into deck. Of course, Viking offered owners the ability to customize the cockpit to their preferences and style of fishing.
Viking utilizes advanced composite and vacuum bagging technologies for optimal strength to weight ratios and durability. The state of the art 5-axis milling machines with computer-controlled system are capable of producing structural components to precise tolerances, creating the beautiful sculptural look of the 46 Convertible’s open flybridge. The classic convertible layout of the bridge offers settees for guests forward and starboard of the helm console. Helm station can be set up with multiple monitoring screens and electronics all within easy reach of helmsman, by Viking’s Atlantic Marine Electronics subsidiary, including the Moritz Octoplex digital electrical distribution system. Recessed compartments on either side of helm pod contain other system controls. Two Murray helm chairs complement the rounded, curved style of the 46C. A drop-down electronics box and electric teaser reel compartment could be installed in the optional hardtop. 3-sided Costa Clear, or other brand enclosure was an option.
The interior styling and details of the 46 Convertible were updated as well, based on Viking’s large high-end convertibles. Superb teak veneer fit and finish in either satin or high gloss give the 46C a traditional convertible style of elegant functionality. The 2 stateroom/2 head layout provides comfortable accommodations with sufficient storage for longer fishing trips and cruises.
The main deck salon is entered from cockpit steps through a sliding door. An L-shaped lounge with lift-up seats for rod/tackle storage and cocktail table is to port. Entertainment center is in cabinetry across to starboard. Flatscreen TV is mounted on bulkhead above dinette. Open galley with island and two bar stools is forward to starboard and features undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers, microwave, 3-burner cooktop, Amtico teak & holly flooring, and pull-out trays in beautifully finished cabinetry. Opposite to port, the dinette seats 2 to 3 around a pedestal table; additional diners can be seated at the galley island bar.
A short companionway leads down a few steps to the belowdecks accommodations with washer/dryer to port, guest head with separate shower and guest stateroom with over/under single bunks and private access to guest head also on port side. Master stateroom is on starboard side and features a queen-size island berth with storage underneath, hanging locker, and private ensuite master head with large shower in forepeak.
Vikings are nearly all semi-custom now, with many options from which to select. Other than the hull, Viking has the engineering and tooling to change features and layout to satisfy an owner’s wish, making each 46 Convertible an original.
The Viking 46 Convertible’s length overall is 50’9” with standard bow pulpit, and LOA is 46’11” without (optional); beam is 16’6” and draft is 4’5”.
