As expected of a Viking Yacht, the 44 Convertible was specifically designed for both fishing and cruising with Viking’s continuous improvements to performance and styling. The 44C’s distinctive aerodynamic profile—swept back deckhouse, gracefully sloping sheer, high flared bow, evokes pride of ownership as she confidently muscles through seas with ease, tossing aside spray for the dry, comfortable ride for which Viking is renowned.
Viking’s proprietary running surface of the 44C is same as the 44 Open’s, that was introduced a year or so earlier. The sharp entry bow with nearly 6-feet of freeboard flattens to about 14 degrees deadrise at transom, which along with chines and strakes provides the lift and stability for the 44C’s exceptional performance. Over 50 years of boatbuilding and tournament testing have proven the Viking hulls’ reliability in all sea conditions.

The 44C’s open bridge is largest in its class, a benefit of the 44’s wide 16-ft beam, and features a tournament-style raised center console helm with 360-degree visibility, including cockpit, and two pedestal helm seats. Lounge seating is to port, starboard, and forward of the walkaround console. Expertly installed Garmin electronics are protected by acrylic covers on dash. The fiberglass hardtop can be ordered with optional overhead instrumentation and teaser reel compartments. The Costa Clear enclosure is another popular option. Extended bridge aft deck overhangs mezzanine below that is accessed through aft deck hatch and ladder. A custom tower and outriggers can be built and installed by Viking’s subsidiary, Palm Beach Towers.
The 119 sq ft cockpit is ready to fish with standard necessities including flush rod holders, transom livewell, transom door with liftgate, in-deck fish and stowage wells, tackle stowage, step-box cooler, fresh and saltwater washdown systems, and plenty of space to rig bait, watch lines, and fight fish. Viking can configure the cockpit to an owner’s preferences as nearly 90% of components are produced in-house and built to the same high standards as parts for Viking’s 90-ft Convertible. The 44 Convertible has been designed and engineered for the installation of a SeaKeeper gyro stabilizer in cockpit lazarette, another popular option, that provides the greatest level of stability and comfort. SeaKeeper stabilizers do not add drag to the running surface by adding an underwater appendage as some other passive stabilizers do.
The observation mezzanine has an aft facing lounge seat on the starboard side for watching baits and fishing action in shaded comfort. Seat section is hinged and lifts for engine access. The dazzling white engine room is superbly engineered for easy maintenance and service, and equipment accessibility. Delta-T engine room ventilation system, oil exchange system, Onan 13.5kW E-QD generator are some of the standard mechanical equipment in engine room. Standard power is provided by twin 800hp MAN 6-cyclinder diesels. Optional twin 1000hp Volvo Penta D13 diesels cruise at 33 knots and a top speed of 38 knots.
Viking designed the 44 Convertible with two full staterooms and two heads with separate showers, positioning the master midships on port side for optimal spaciousness. The master features an island queen berth, nightstands, 28” flatscreen TV, stereo speakers, maple-lined hanging locker, and private ensuite head with enclosed shower. Areas that aren’t carpeted are teak & holly Amtico flooring for easy maintenance. The large forward guest stateroom features crossover berths with a lower double berth and single upper berth to maximize space. The nicely appointed guest head/shower is on starboard side.
The salon is entered from the port side of cockpit mezzanine and is unusually spacious for a 44-foot yacht. An L-shaped lounge with hi-lo cocktail table is to starboard opposite cabinetry on portside. Viking’s excellent carpentry work and satin-finished trim adds classic elegance to the interior. Large windows brighten the main deck with natural light. The mid-level U-shaped galley to starboard features an integrated breakfast bar with two bar stools on salon side for an additional dining area. Standard equipment includes undercounter refrigerator/freezer drawers, 2-burner Kenyon electric cooktop, microwave oven, plentiful Corian countertop space with deep stainless-steel sink, and cabinet and drawer storage. Forward of salon on port side is the raised dinette with custom pedestal table that seats 4 to 5. A 40” flatscreen TV is mounted on bulkhead above the dinette.
This classically styled and elegant “pocket” convertible is cleverly designed to utilize every available space to create the expansive feeling of a much larger yacht. Having the widest beam in its class helps to add spaciousness to the interior as well as the flybridge, for extra walkaround space at the helm and seating areas. Whether enjoying an overnight jaunt or extended offshore cruise, Viking designs comfortable, livable yachts combined with best performing hulls, propulsion, and systems.
A great advantage of Viking’s vertically integrated manufacturing is that components produced in-house are marked with serial numbers allowing Viking to manufacture a replacement part, such as a cabinet door, with the same grain pattern, color, and finish to match the original. Another key service that is vertically integrated with Viking, is subsidiary Atlantic Marine Electronics that expertly installs all electronics from helm to entertainment systems, making it easy for owners to customize to their preferences and have a turn-key boat at delivery.
The Viking 44 Convertible’s length overall is 44′ with a 16′ 4” beam and 3′ 10” draft. Displacement is 46,000 lbs. Fuel capacity is 845 gallons, water capacity is 120 gallons, holding tank is 215 gallons. Power Options are Twin 800hp MAN I6 800CRM (standard) or Twin 1000hp Volvo D13 1000.
