The custom Merritt 77 Sportfish, ARTEMIS, Hull #107, was launched in 2019 with a hull and bottom redesigned by Merritt Boatworks design team. Then in 2022, another custom Merritt 77 was launched, with an all-new high performance hull bottom designed by the renowned naval architect, Michael Peters.
Roy Merritt, grandson of the founders Franklin L. & Ennis Merritt and known for his innovation in sportfish boat construction and utilization of modern technology. Roy has come a long way since he first transitioned from the plank on frame wood boats to cold-molded construction in the early 1970s and the bare-boned tuna tournament boats built by his uncle Buddy in the 1950s and 1960s. The 2022 Merritt 77, WYCHMERE was built using high-tech construction techniques with aerospace blends of hybrid Kevlar, carbon fiber, e-glass, and composite cores for ultra lightweight strength and durability.
The 2022 Merritt 77 speeds and efficiencies were further enhanced by integrating new technology with wake-adapted struts and rudders. She is powered with twin 2600 hp MTU diesels capable of 35-36 knot cruising speeds and a top end of 43-45 knots, depending on load. The engine room, accessed from the cockpit, is finished as well as the exterior and has excellent accessibility for service and maintenance, and great sound insulation throughout. A dedicated pump room is forward of the engine room—both have thermostat temperature control and watertight entrance doors.
With a beam of 21’2”, the immense cockpit is outfitted with all necessary equipment and amenities for tournament and world-class sport fishing, including insulated fish box with automatic pump-out and Eskimo icemaker, fresh and saltwater washdowns, under gunwale storage lockers, offset Bluewater fighting chair, and mezzanine with 3 huge freezers (2 port, 1 starboard), along with storage under lift-up seats and a refrigerated drink box, and a number of other standard and optional features—hydraulic outriggers, Seakeeper gyrostabilizer, 2,000 gpd watermaker.
The open flybridge with hardtop is also very spacious and features a beautifully designed teak console dash with three 19” multifunction units, two boxes with lift-up lids that house controls for nearly all systems within fingertip reach of helmsman, and three Bluewater helm chairs. Forward of the console is an L-shaped lounge. Other amenities include a built-in drink box, storage locker, and an aft-facing seat and custom tuna tower.
Merritt Boatworks is renowned for its exceptional luxurious interiors and handcrafted workmanship—truly works of art. The Merritt 77’s cavernous salon with forward open galley and dinette exudes the welcoming comfort of rich satin-finished teak trim, valances, cabinetry, and furniture upholstered in leather. All appliances are neatly out of sight below granite counters or behind teak doors, and the upper galley cabinets feature custom pullout drawers for easy access. A pantry and storage area is just forward of the galley and storage is cleverly built-into furniture and spaces throughout to store extra gear and provisions for worldwide travel.
The 2022 Merritt 77 accommodations is arranged with 4 staterooms and 3 heads. The master suite with island queen berth is to port with enormous forward ensuite head. Large VIP suite with island queen berth to port in forepeak features a pullman berth for an extra guest, if needed. Guest stateroom and crew (or guest) stateroom, both with over/under bunks, share a head with shower positioned between them on the starboard side. All staterooms feature the same beautiful satin-finished teak and generous built-in storage. A fourth head was planned as a cockpit day head, along with a spiral staircase from cockpit to the bridge or they may be available with future custom builds.
The 2022 Merritt 77 has a length overall of 77’7” and a 21’2” beam. Draft is 5’6” and displacement weight is 139,000 lbs. Fuel capacity is 2,850 gallons and water capacity is 450 gallons.
