Hull #57, a Merritt 75 sportfish yacht, is not only a unique custom build, but also the only 75-foot that was constructed by Merritt Yachts. No mold exists as it was built on a jig in the cold-mold construction method at a time (mid 1990s) when marine inboard diesel engines were engineered with greater horsepower. This in turn, enabled boatbuilders to design and build larger vessels, capable of running greater distances and at faster speeds—no longer maxed at 20 knots. The Merritt 75 was originally named “Can’t Touch Dis” and later renamed, “Fine Lines” (1998-2002), and then more recently, “Reel Janie” until she was sold in 2022. The mezzanine with cushioned seating was added and she was repowered with new twin MTU 16V2000 1800 HP diesel engines in 2001. In 2007, two new Kilo-Pac 40 KW Gensets were installed, and the mezzanine was updated. New teak decks were installed in 2007. Seakeeper gyrostabilizers were installed in 2017. Entertainment and navigation electronics have been updated and upgraded as well.
Key features include a custom tuna tower with helm, Miya Epoch US-9 teaser reels in flybridge hardtop overhead, Side Power hydraulic bow thruster, two Watermakers Inc. WMS 1200 watermakers, Onkyo Audio/Visual System, and much more. Cockpit is ideally outfitted for tournament fishing with Eskimo ice machine; Merritt fighting chair; Bluewater rocket launcher rod holder; two custom Merritt freezers; two custom Merritt refrigerators; sump box for deck livewell; two in-deck fish boxes; tackle drawers; ambient air-conditioning in mezzanine overhead; 36’ Rupp triple spreader outriggers with KEP cameras, transom tuna door, and plenty of storage. Rod storage is built into seating on bridge and a custom electronically actuated hidden rod storage cabinet in salon.
The interior of the Merritt 75 is absolutely magnificent with sapele and pomelle burlwood sapele—hardwoods from Africa that are denser with greater rot-resistant properties than mahogany, that are matched and finished with a beautiful luster by Merritt’s woodworking artisans. All countertops and some tabletops are crafted of exquisite museum-quality fossil sandstone. All three staterooms (including crew cabin) feature opulent ensuite heads with showers and beautiful hexagonal sinks—a level of luxury one would expect on a megayacht! The master stateroom is forward with queen berth and a cedar-lined walk-in closet in the forepeak (shelves, drawers, shoe pockets, hanging rods), a concealed 65” TV with vanity below and immense ensuite head with double hexagonal sinks. Crew cabin has direct access to the engine room.
The salon features a U-shaped sofa on portside that seats eight around an electronically actuated hi-low coffee/cocktail/dining table. Directly opposite are two leather club chairs and cabinet. The rod storage cabinet is behind chair, on starboard side. Entertainment center is in a large custom cabinet in the starboard aft corner. The arched ceiling in salon and over 50 linear feet of surrounding windows create a bright, spacious social area for relaxing with family and friends. The open, fully equipped galley is forward on both port and starboard sides with loads of countertop space for meal prep and serving. The huge galley is equipped with Miele convection oven, range, and dishwasher, Sharp Carousel microwave, two custom Merritt undercounter refrigerators, two custom Merritt freezers, Hoshizaki icemaker, Frigidaire wine cooler, Kitchenaid trash compactor, Cuisinart coffee maker, and plenty of storage in cabinetry and drawers. All appliances are hidden in cabinets and below beautiful fossil sandstone counters for elegant simplicity.
The Merritt 75 has a length overall of 75ft, a 19’8” beam, and a 5’8” draft. Powered by twin 1800 hp MTU inboard diesels, she cruises at 27 knots with a maximum speed of 33 knots. Fuel capacity is 2,850 gallons; freshwater capacity is 450 gallons. Displacement weight is 130,000 lb.
