The huge 153 sq ft cockpit was redesigned with trophy and tournament fishermen in mind, a Hatteras forte. As always, the cockpit has many fishing amenities, yet remains uncluttered. An aft-facing mezzanine with comfortable cushioned seating for four guests and anglers has insulated storage and an 8-cubic foot bait freezer underneath. Cockpit amenities include bait and tackle center with 3 drawers, bait-prep cutting board, gaff locker, insulated storage tub, fiberglass cockpit boarding step box with storage, two 5-ft fish boxes with macerator and split lids that are flush in-deck, transom door, flush mount set of 4 rod holders, mounting plate laminated into deck for optional fighting chair, storage in steps to deckhouse with chilled box in top step and more. Owners could customize with Hatteras options or other equipment.

Improvements to the GT60 interior were made in 2010, such as moving the salon access sliding door to port for better interior flow. The main deckhouse was also reconfigured with the salon’s L-shaped sofa (rod-storage beneath) moved to starboard along with the dinette that seats four adults, opening up the main cabin space. Cabinetry is opposite to port with 42” flatscreen TV and Bose Lifestyle 35 home theater entertainment system that is viewable from both the dinette and salon sofa. The dinette was changed from U-shape to diner-style booth seating. The wide frameless side windows are no longer obstructed by the electrical panel that was moved to floor-level.

Interior wood choices were satin-finish African mahogany or cherrywood that were book-matched for seamless flow of woodgrain cabinetry—the craftsmanship of a high-end custom yacht. Matching wood inserts are also used for appliance fascia in galley. Galley went from a peninsula to a curved extended counter with breakfast bar and two bar stools. Appliances include two undercounter drawer-style refrigerator/freezers, 4-burner stovetop, convection microwave oven, and garbage disposal. Air-conditioning is dispersed throughout the interior from discreet vents in the fluted wooden valances rather than grates. Fabric headliners are on a track system for service access throughout the interior. Salon headliner has wood accents.

Companionway steps lead to the 3-stateroom, 3-head accommodations below and washer/dryer closet. Earlier models of the GT60 had a 3-stateroom, 2-head standard layout. Each stateroom features a cedar-lined closet, private entry head with stall shower, and plenty of storage. Master and forward guest staterooms feature queen-size berths; starboard guest stateroom has over and under bunks. Forward stateroom can also be configured with bunks and two other layouts were available for accommodations.

Flybridge helm console is set up like a center console with walk-around space and guest seating forward side of console and on each side on bench settees with rod storage beneath, and a top-loading insulated drink box. Single-lever electronic engine controls are on either side of helm pod with custom hydraulic power-assisted steering wheel, emergency back-up, engine sync, and trolling valve control switches, and adjustable helm chair. Helm electronics include systems monitor, Icom VHF, Furuno depth and temperature indicators. Control station has all necessary switches and instrument panel. Stereo receiver and speaker system in flybridge as well as cockpit. Excellent all-around visibility from helm.

Hatteras offered an enclosed flybridge and optional equipment such as full tower and outriggers, electric teaser reels, freezer unit and more. Flybridge overhang shades the cockpit mezzanine and LED lighting underneath lights the cockpit forward area.

The GT60 is one of the first Hatteras boats constructed with a completely resin-infused hull instead of hand-laid layers of fiberglass. Advantages of this construction feature are multiple. The automated resin-infusion process ensures an even hull thickness and consistency from one hull produced to the next, with an ideal ratio of 60 fiberglass to 40 resin that reduces weight by eliminating excess resin. Bulkheads, stringers, and other components fit more precisely for greater strength and durability, giving the GT60 even more wave-crushing capabilities. Up-sized standard twin 1900hp Caterpillar C32 ACERT diesels power this 60-footer with 87,000 displacement weight to a top speed of 41 knots and cruising speed of 36 to 37 knots to muscle through head-seas.

Performance is enhanced by the proven efficient and sea-kindly hull design with solid resin-infused bottom, variable-degree deadrise, and patented deep-tunnels that reduce shaft angle for maximum usable engine torque and propeller thrust for which Hatteras is famed. And draft is minimized to under 5-feet. The later GT60 Convertibles feature a single integrated center-mounted, baffled fuel tank constructed of fire-retardant resin-infused fiberglass and bronze fittings. The repositioned fuel tank helps the boat maintain its longitudinal center of gravity (LCG) as fuel is burned. Water tanks were moved aft.

Hatteras continues to innovate and improve performance, comfort, and aesthetics to offer the best boating experience to hardcore fishermen, family, and guests. In 2019, the GT60 was replaced with the new GT59 in the current Hatteras GT Series line-up (GT45EX, GT59, GT65, GT70) for a convertible in the under 60-foot category.

The length overall of the Hatteras GT60 is 59’10” and LOA with bow pulpit is 62’2”; beam is 19’ and draft is 4’9”. Headroom in most areas is 6’6”. Fuel capacity is 1500 gallons; freshwater is 200 gallons and holding tank is 100 gallons. Displacement weight is 87,000lbs. Engine options were twin CAT C32A diesels in 1600hp, 1800hp, or 1900hp powers.
