Once the largest production sportfish yacht, the Hatteras 82 Convertible is the ultimate boat for long-range offshore angling excursions and luxury cruising. Designed by renowned naval architect, the late Jack Hargrave, this beautiful tri-deck yacht has the spaciousness and features one would expect of a megayacht, while retaining the classic Hatteras sport-fisherman lines and solid build. Signature solid fiberglass bottom construction, variable degree deadrise, and molded in-hull prop tunnels provide the proven seaworthy platform for the comfortable Hatteras ride, even in rough seas. Hatteras offered a high degree of flexibility with layouts, options, and owner customization, making every Hatteras 82 Convertible unique. Many have been refitted and updated with the latest luxury materials, helm and entertainment electronics, appliances, furnishings, fishing and mechanical equipment, and more. Some have repurposed the aft crew quarters to a diving center and added a davit to the foredeck for a tender and cradle for jet ski, enabling the Hatteras 82 Convertible to command a high resale value.

The cockpit on this sportfishing boat is 161 sq ft of fish-fighting space and amenities such as dual in-deck fishboxes with macerators that could be hooked up to an ice-chipper, bait freezers, stowage and tackle lockers, rod holders, transom tuna door, and could include a Murray Brothers fighting chair, transom livewell, underwater lights, and more depending on options and owner’s custom upgrades and additions. Cockpit could be set up for diving; some owners opted to convert aft crew quarters to a dive center with compressor and gear storage. Engine room and crew quarters feature 2 bunks and head with shower. A utility area with washer and dryer and space for optional upright freezer unit is to starboard of crew quarters. Spacious stand-up engine room houses choice of twin Detroit Diesel, Deutz, or MTU diesels of various speed and cruising capabilities. Twin 35kW diesel generators in sound shields, along with other mechanical equipment and systems, and Hatteras excellent electrical and plumbing systems are easily accessed.
From the cockpit, port and starboard steps lead to the aft/mezzanine deck with two large aft-facing benches to watch cockpit action or trolling lines. Aft deck can be set up with additional seating and table for patio-style al fresco dining and sunset cocktails. A ladder provides access to the aft bridge deck above. An auxiliary full control station with cockpit visibility is outside the enclosed bridge to starboard. Bridge aft deck is large enough for deck chairs as another place to view cockpit action. Optional tower can be accessed from bridge aft deck by ladder. Aft door opens to large, enclosed bridge with wrap-around seating, wet bar, and entertainment center for lounging in air-conditioned comfort. Forward convertible-style helm console with dual helm chairs, has plenty of space for a complete array of electronic equipment and control systems. To port of helm is a curved stairwell leading down to the main deck salon.
Full length glass doors open to the salon from the mezzanine/aft deck. Salon features plenty of luxurious Ultraleather seating port and starboard sides, handcrafted cabinetry, and wet bar with icemaker and glass storage in aft port corner. Well-equipped galley is on portside, forward of stairway to bridge, and features a full-size upright refrigerator/freezer, wrap-around countertops, 4-burner stove, trash compactor, pantry, and more depending on optional appliances and other owner upgrades. Directly opposite is a U-shaped dinette and day head on starboard side.
Down a few steps, companionway leads to accommodations for eight. To aft and port is the beautiful full-beam master suite. Master features king berth, two cedar-lined closets, lots of storage—nightstands, dresser, flatscreen TV and entertainment system. Ensuite head features his/hers sinks, Whirlpool tub and separate shower. Large VIP guest stateroom is in forepeak with plenty of closet and storage space, queen walk-around berth and private head with stall shower. Two other guest staterooms on port and starboard sides feature twins that can convert into queen berths. Each has private head with stall shower and cedar-lined closets. A stacked washer/dryer is in companionway closet.
Bow/foredeck area can accommodate a tender davit, storage boxes, and jet ski cradles. Bow pulpit, bow thruster, swim platform, dive ladder, Naiad stabilizers, Sea Recovery watermaker are just a few of the possible owner upgrades and options with the Hatteras 82 Convertible to make her the ultimate tournament sportfishing yacht and luxury cruiser.
Length overall is 82’8”, beam is 21’5”, and draft is 6’6”. Weight is 196,000 lbs. Modified-V hull with 4-degree aft deadrise. Fuel capacity is 4,210 gallons, freshwater is 840 gallons, and holding tank is 220 gallons.
The Hatteras 90 Convertible is very similar to the 82 Convertible, but was built to order as a custom sportfish yacht. United Yacht Sales has access to many used Hatteras Yachts on the brokerage market.
