The year was 2020 and a few miles off the coast of North Carolina, a 35-foot Contender was about to make history. Trolling along in well over 1,000 feet of water, the bite of a lifetime bent the rod, line peeled off the reel, and a two hour fight ensued. When it was all said and done, the anglers had successfully landed a 492.5-pound blue marlin which was good enough for 'Largest Marlin' and winner of the outboard division in the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament. This feat was over several larger sportfish including many over boats over 60-feet built by prolific shipyards like Jarrett Bay, Merritt, Bayliss, and others.

While everyone marveled at the winning catch, the fact that a small center-console boat had out-fished the much larger, more expensive sportfish had not gone unnoticed.
