The Viking 82 Convertible was the flagship of the Viking Convertible fleet in 2010. Launched in 2008 from Viking’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in New Gretna, New Jersey, the 82C offers tournament offshore fishing features in an elegant luxurious motor yacht setting—the very definition of a convertible sportfish yacht. Like a bespoke custom-built boat, no two Viking 82 Convertibles are exactly alike, as Viking offers many options and could outfit a new build to the owner’s preferences. With 90% of components designed and manufactured in-house, Viking has an inherent quality control advantage and therefore, its boats are easier to insure. They typically hold their value well at resale because of Viking’s high standards and superior engineering.

With the dramatic sheer of a long flush foredeck about 10’ above waterline and raked back main and bridge decks, the 82 Convertible is an impressive looking yacht. The 82C’s hull that was tank tested at the Stevens Institute is convex in forward sections, unlike previous models, for a softer ride in head seas. Deadrise was decreased to a flatter 10-degrees aft adding stability, while deep prop pockets reduce draft to a mere 5’6”. Curved transom deflects water to sides when backing down. Whether fishing or cruising, the 82C was designed to deliver a pleasurable experience from bridge to cockpit to interior accommodations. Viking offers the 82C configured with open or enclosed flybridge. Additionally, the exclusive Viking Sky Bridge with amazing 360-degree views, adds an open bridge station with center console helm, electronic stowage, and lounge seating for guests under a fiberglass hardtop. Sky Bridge is accessed by ladder from the enclosed bridge’s extended aft deck.
Viking’s innovative enclosed bridge offers the climate-controlled comfort and amenities of a “second salon.” Accessed inside from the salon by a circular staircase or outside by ladder from the cockpit mezzanine to the aft bridge deck entrance door. The enclosed bridge features an L-shaped lounge and teak table on an elevated platform, plenty of built-in stowage, entertainment center with flatscreen TV, wet bar, and refrigerator giving the 82C two levels of entertaining space. The forward wraparound helm is engineered with a leather covered raised dash accommodating an array of electronics installed by Atlantic Marine Electronics, a Viking subsidiary. Adjustable Stidd pedestal chair is flanked by forward facing companion seats. A lockable aft door leads to the exterior aft deck with a pod-style docking station to starboard. Viking added buttons for the hydraulic bow thruster to the single lever controls for simplified operation when maneuvering in a marina or backing down on a fish.
Open bridge features a walkaround center helm console with raised platform for excellent visibility and 3 pedestal helm chairs. Electronics are clustered in a raised pod protected from the elements. Deep compartments on either side of helm pod and overhead drop-down compartment contain additional equipment. Single lever controls have built-in buttons for the 40hp hydraulic bow thruster. Programmable independent rudders are controlled by Viking’s own PICES steering system for superior turning and handling abilities. Forward of helm console is a circular settee wrapping a round table and guest lounge seating on port and starboard sides with rod stowage beneath. Amenities include freezer, chill box, and sink. Air-conditioning is optional.
If the Palm Beach Towers tuna tower and outrigger package was opted for the enclosed bridge 82 Convertible, the access ladder will be located in center of aft bridge deck. Ladder access to the cockpit will also be via the extended aft bridge deck down to the mezzanine level of cockpit.
225 square feet is a lot of fish-fighting cockpit area! A two-level observation mezzanine provides plenty of built-in stowage for tackle and gear, a deep freezer for bait, refrigerated drink box (built into step), and a cushioned seat shaded by flybridge overhang. Cockpit set-up includes flush rod holders, removable insulated in-sole fish boxes, transom box, and transom door with lift gate. Cockpit can be further customized and outfitted with a fighting chair, livewells, Eskimo ice machine, and more. Viking utilizes 240-volt swimming pool pumps to circulate raw water for equipment, wash-downs, and livewells as parts are much more easily obtained. The bottom two steps of mezzanine lift for wide access to the neatly arranged engine room. Machinery is easily accessible for maintenance and service.
Cockpit/mezzanine steps lead to main deck sliding door which opens to the elegantly appointed salon and world-class galley. A day head is conveniently located just inside salon entrance to starboard. The circular staircase leading up to the enclosed bridge lounge is next to the day head. Salon features a large L-shaped upholstered sofa and coffee table, 55” plasma TV on electric lift in cabinetry, and Bose Lifestyle 48 System with surround sound for a home theater entertainment experience. Panoramic windows bathe the main deck with natural light and great views. Open galley features undercounter Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer units, electric hob, combination oven, granite countertops and plenty of storage. An island bar with 3 custom stools can be set for breakfast or serve snacks and drinks. Starboard galley is open to the upholstered C-shaped dinette settee and table on portside. A walk-in pantry stores provisions for extended cruises or distant fishing grounds. Choices of teak joinery finishes, window lambrequins, granite treatments, upholsteries, carpeting and more allow unique, personalized versions of the Viking 82 Convertible.
Forward of galley is companionway to staterooms below deck that rival the luxury accommodations of high-end motor yachts. Viking offered two layouts with full beam master suite or large master suite forward to starboard. Both versions feature a king-size berth with custom headboard and opulent appointments including beautiful teak joinery (satin or gloss), dressing table, maple-lined hanging lockers, plenty of stowage, wall-to-wall carpeting, entertainment package with 46” flatscreen TV, and ensuite head. Four commodious guest staterooms with queen or twin berths are elegantly appointed and comfortable. Each has a private head with granite countertops, Amtico flooring, and fiberglass stall shower.
Viking Yachts is committed to excellence in safety, reliability, and performance as well as the aesthetics of each sportfishing yacht it produces, resulting in the popularity and value-retention of the Viking Convertible series.
