Award-winning design is evident throughout the Hatteras 77 Convertible. With Sky Lounge bridge deck and interior as well-designed and luxurious as a superyacht, the 77 Convertible is truly a world-class tournament and cruising yacht. Hatteras Yachts’ uncompromising solid construction and proven shallow-draft hull design is foundational to the 77C and all Hatteras boats. Always innovating ways to improve performance and comfort, to balance its tournament-ready fishing platform capable of reaching remote fishing destinations, with extended coastal and islands cruising in ultimate style and comfort, is the ongoing mission of Hatteras Yachts. It is no wonder this beautiful and powerful sportfish yacht retains a high resale value. It is likely that no two 77 Convertibles are exactly alike as production builder Hatteras offers so many options and high degree of customization, that owners were assisted by a custom-design coordinator.
Hull shape is a seamless convex form transitioning from fine modified-V with high flared bow to a variable deadrise, around 22-degrees midships to a virtually flat 2-degrees at transom. This design adds lift and stability when underway, combined with other elements, such as side strakes that deflect spray along with enhancing lift. The wide 22ft beam also aids stability, besides creating immense interior and exterior spaces. The 77C’s large mass and weight driven by powerful twin diesels in an efficiently designed hull, plow through rough seas without shuddering or pounding. This superb seakeeping ability is why Hatteras was founded in 1960 with the first 41ft fiberglass sportfish “convertible” (a term originated by founder Willis Slane) and is known for worldwide.
The spacious 192 sq ft cockpit is the focus of the boat’s fishability. Amenities include a transom door capable of hauling in massive gamefish, two 65” in-deck macerated fishboxes with gas-assist struts (one can be rigged as a livewell), 10-cubic ft bait freezer, storage tubs, and optional bait wells that are modular drop-in units for custom positioning in the mezzanine levels, and stainless-steel lined tackle drawers. Owner could opt for another fishbox molded into the transom. The mezzanine level features 25 sq ft of cushioned seating for watching lines or enjoying the action under cover of the extended flybridge overhang. Standard mezzanine configuration has the bait freezer located outboard on the upper level and on the lower level, two 20-gal. storage tubs are installed to starboard and a third is to port. The bait and tackle center with drawers is set to port. The steps leading to sliding door entry to main cabin contain a refrigerated drink box and a wet storage compartment for mop heads and chamois. Ladder to aft deck of flybridge is portside of top step, next to mezzanine seat. Center mezzanine seat is hinged for engine room access. Flush mounted rod holders line the cockpit sides. A built-in deck plate supports an optional fighting chair. Seawater and freshwater washdown outlets and shore water connections feature the Hatteras patented quick disconnect. Optional drop-down mezzanine control panel. Hatteras could customize the fishing gear and amenities to the owners personal fishing style and preferences.
The 77 Convertible was designed with an enclosed bridge/Sky Lounge that offers plenty of seating and an entertainment area. The forward helm console has space for up to 5 flat screen displays and a convertible-style steering station with single lever electronic controls. Features computer/ethernet comprehensive monitoring system and emergency back-up controls unit. Pedestal Pompanette helm chair is flanked with two forward facing seats. A raised sectional to starboard aft has rod storage beneath and is directly opposite of a flip-down 37” plasma TV, dry bar with granite countertop, combination refrigerator/icemaker, and stowage cabinet. Entertainment includes AM/FM audio access with DVD/CD changer and Boston Acoustics stereo speakers. Curved stairwell leads down to salon. Aft sliding door opens to outside bridge aft deck. Pod-style auxiliary helm with single-lever controls and full view of cockpit is to starboard, an aft-facing bench seat is in center, and ladder to the tower is to port, if this option is installed. Push button operated Rupp outriggers are also optional equipment.
The main cabin salon is accessed from a sliding glass pocket door or from the enclosed flybridge/Sky Lounge stairs leading down to the port aft side of the spacious, elegantly appointed salon. Galley and dinette are forward on same level. Just inside the sliding door from cockpit, is a day head to port aft, under the stairs. This was a new feature with the 77 Convertible. A large L-shaped sofa with stowage below is on starboard aft side across from a custom barrel chair and the 50” plasma TV that is mounted to aft side of the galley’s upright refrigerator cabinet. The state-of-the-art A/V system is accessible throughout the vessel via touch-pad controls. Hatteras has made great use of the 22’ beam for an amazing amount of storage space. Just forward of the galley is a walk-in pantry (with room for an optional freezer) and a walk-in laundry room also housing the central vacuum unit, is directly opposite on starboard side. The galley features a full-size upright refrigerator, 4-burner ceramic cooktop, microwave/convection oven, trash compactor, garbage disposal, wrap-around bar with granite countertops and 3 custom bar stools, and undermounted stainless-steel sink. Hatteras offered a half-dozen stone color choices for the countertops in kitchen, Sky Lounge, master and day heads, along with 3 different woods with satin or high-gloss finish. Directly opposite and open to the galley, is the U-shaped dinette with drawer storage below and stone tabletop.
