Bill’s family of shipbuilders raised him on the Chesapeake Bay and at 13 his Dad helped him build his first runabout. A little later he sailed catboats, iceboats, canoes, or anything he found floating could either rig a sail on or put a motor on it. While he worked for 17 years for the world’s largest power tool manufacturer, he quickly gained experience in manufacturing, service, sales, distribution, marketing and also developed his hobby of rebuilding larger boats.

While Bill’s other hobbies of boating, fishing, and sailing kept his love for the sea alive, his business efforts thrived in the private sector of commercial concrete construction as a sales consultant where he specialized in the design, manufacturing and sales of diamond drills, saws and specialty fasteners for concrete and stone.

In 1981 he founded Chesapeake Yacht Charters, and within a few years became the U.S. importer for the Swedish boat builder, Hallberg-Rassy, and also founded a yacht brokerage and sales company, Free State Yachts, in Annapolis.

Bill’s international interests in boats extend from the Caribbean to Scandinavia and he’s become well versed and experienced in import, export, yacht registry, and modern boatbuilding and fitting out for long range cruising.

Bill credits his success to his diversity, experience, attention to detail, empathy, and his ability to listen while remaining considerate to his client’s needs. He also has a commitment to excel with service both before and after the sale.
